How it works
How Clomid Raises LH, FSH & Testosterone
Clomiphene is a SERM that reduces estrogenic negative feedback at the hypothalamic-pituitary level. This can increase pituitary release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which in turn can stimulate endogenous testosterone production and support spermatogenesis.[2][3]
A 2026 review focused specifically on Clomiphene after anabolic-steroid use describes it as the most commonly used off-label pharmacologic approach for anabolic-steroid-induced hypogonadism, while also noting that clinical efficacy, safety and optimal monitoring remain incompletely standardized.[1]
This is the main reason Clomid is used in PCT: the goal is not to supply testosterone from outside the body, but to stimulate the body’s own hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular signalling after suppression.

Clomid & Endogenous Testosterone
Clomiphene has been studied extensively in men with hypogonadism outside the bodybuilding setting. A systematic review and meta-analysis covering 19 studies and 1,642 men found increases in total testosterone as well as free testosterone, LH and FSH during Clomiphene treatment.[4]
The evidence is stronger for improving hormone levels than it is for proving one universal post-steroid recovery protocol.
Fertility
Clomid & Male Fertility
Unlike exogenous testosterone, Clomiphene stimulates endogenous gonadotropin signalling rather than suppressing it. This makes it relevant when maintaining testicular testosterone production and spermatogenesis is important.
Current AUA/ASRM male-infertility guidance recognizes SERMs such as Clomiphene as an option for selected infertile men with low testosterone, although this use in men remains off-label.[3]

The newest dedicated review of Clomiphene in post-cycle therapy was published in Andrology in July 2026. It confirms that Clomiphene is widely used after AAS cessation and that its mechanism is well suited to restoring gonadotropin signalling.[1]

Important practical consideration
Clomid & Visual Disturbances
Blurred vision, spots, flashes and other visual disturbances are established Clomiphene effects. Current prescribing information notes that the likelihood increases with higher total dose or longer treatment duration, and that some prolonged visual disturbances have been reported.[2]
This is included because it is one of the more distinctive practical Clomid considerations, rather than as part of a long generic side-effect list.
