Nolvadex 20mg (Tamoxifen) – 50 Tablets
Nolvadex is the common trade name for Tamoxifen, a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM). In bodybuilding it is most commonly used during post-cycle therapy (PCT) and when estrogen activity at breast tissue is a concern. Each tablet contains 20mg of Tamoxifen, with 50 tablets providing 1,000mg total.

Standard Thai Anabolics 4-week PCT example: 40mg/day for the first 2 weeks, followed by 20mg/day for the next 2 weeks. If Nolvadex is used after a cycle containing long-acting injectable steroids, the start date should follow the active life of the longest-acting compound rather than simply starting the day after the final injection.

Long-acting SERM
Does Nolvadex Need Split Dosing?
Tamoxifen has a terminal elimination half-life of approximately 5–7 days, with its major metabolite persisting even longer.[1]
That long pharmacokinetic profile means once-daily administration is sufficient for the common 20mg and 40mg daily PCT schedules; frequent split dosing is not required simply to keep Tamoxifen active throughout the day.
How it works
Nolvadex Blocks Estrogen Receptors — It Does Not Lower Estrogen
Tamoxifen is a SERM. Its anti-estrogenic action is produced by competing with estrogen for receptor binding in target tissues such as the breast.[1]
This is different from an aromatase inhibitor. Nolvadex does not directly stop testosterone from converting into estrogen and does not simply “lower estrogen levels.” Instead, it changes how estrogen can act at selected estrogen receptors.
That distinction is important when choosing between Nolvadex and an aromatase inhibitor such as Arimidex: they are used for different mechanisms even though both may appear in steroid-cycle estrogen-management discussions.
Breast-tissue estrogen activity
Nolvadex for Gynecomastia
Tamoxifen has direct clinical evidence for reducing gynecomastia in men. In a double-blind crossover study using 10mg twice daily, seven of ten men had a measurable reduction in gynecomastia size and all four men with painful gynecomastia reported symptomatic relief.[2]
A separate clinical series using 20mg once daily for 6–12 weeks reported complete or satisfactory partial resolution in 30 of 36 men.[3] These studies were not specifically steroid-cycle trials, but they support Tamoxifen’s breast-tissue anti-estrogen role.
Hormonal recovery
Nolvadex for PCT
Tamoxifen can increase pituitary gonadotropin signalling in men. In a controlled hormonal study, 20mg/day for 10 days produced moderate increases in LH, FSH and testosterone in healthy men.[4]
Reviews of anabolic-steroid-induced hypogonadism also recognize SERMs, including Tamoxifen, among management strategies used after AAS exposure, although standardized post-cycle protocols remain poorly studied in controlled trials.[5]
Practical PCT timing
When to Start Nolvadex After a Steroid Cycle
PCT timing depends primarily on how long the final suppressive steroid remains active.

Common PCT comparison
Nolvadex vs Clomid
Nolvadex (Tamoxifen) and Clomid (Clomiphene) are both SERMs, and both can increase gonadotropin and testosterone signalling in men. In one direct hormonal study, 20mg/day Tamoxifen produced endocrine changes broadly comparable with 150mg/day Clomiphene over the short study period.[4]
Nolvadex has the clearer breast-tissue/gynecomastia role. Clomid is another established PCT option, but the old blanket claim that Nolvadex simply has “less side-effect risk than Clomid” has not been carried forward because that is too broad to state as a universal advantage.

Important practical consideration
Tamoxifen & Blood-Clot Risk
Tamoxifen can increase the risk of venous thromboembolic events such as deep-vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. This is a well-established risk in Tamoxifen prescribing information and is particularly relevant to people with a previous clotting history or other major thrombotic risk factors.[1]
